Millennium & Copthorne Opens Waterfront Resort with Marina Overlooking Gulf of Oman
Singapore, 1 February 2011 – With the announcement of the Millennium Resort Mussanah’s soft launch today, water sport enthusiasts can now boldly go where no diver has gone before. Meticulously crafted with a vivid blend of Arabian and Asian themes with panoramic views overlooking the resort’s private 54 berth marina nestled on the Gulf of Oman coast, the hotel is designed for both business and leisure travellers with 234 spacious guestrooms and 74 fully furnished apartments, ranging from studios, one bed and two bed duplexes - all with high speed internet access and in room media hubs – as well as meeting and conference facilities and choice of cosmopolitan restaurants. The resort is the first hotel in Oman by Millennium & Copthorne Hotels plc (M&C) and the Group’s ninth in the region following sister hotels in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Kuwait. M&C recently announced plans for another 7,400 rooms representing another 24 hotels in the region, including Iraq – the largest number of rooms in the pipeline within the Middle East and North Africa. Singapore property giant City Developments Limited owns a controlling stake in M&C. “As the region continues its rapid rate of growth, business and leisure tourism to Oman is expected to grow tremendously,” said Will J. Blake, Director of Sales & Marketing at Millennium Resort Mussanah. “With that in mind, the hotel is poised to take advantage of the boom by focusing our strategy on the MICE sector where we can offer state of the art conference & banqueting facilities to our corporate clients.” In its first phase, the Mussanah hotel will offer four different themed food & beverage outlets all with outdoor terrace seating overlooking the private marina. Water sport activities at Oman Sail and Oman Charter will be the main attractions to guests, with a wide range of facilities such as sailing programs, diving, snorkelling, dolphin watching and chartering of various luxurious boats moored on the marina. Phase two of the resort emphasizes the recreational facilities of the property and is expected to be completed in time for the high travel season in September 2011. The facilities being built are a health club and gym, spa with pool facility, kids’ club and pool, infinity leisure swimming pool, tennis courts, crazy golf pitch & putt, and food and beverage restaurants supporting the recreational area.
This expansion comes as official ties between Singapore and the Middle East gathers momentum. The two countries have been expanding areas of cooperation in recent years. A prime example is the Jewel of Muscat - a joint project between Singapore and Oman launched in March 2009 to sail a reconstructed sailing ship from Oman to Singapore. Oman with its pristine sand dunes and abundant marine life is located in the southeastern coast of the Arabian peninsular.
