The Hong Leong Group is a keen supporter of the arts with an aim of nurturing local arts talents and to enhance the standards of the arts scene in Singapore, bringing it to world-class standards.

2006

  • Hong Leong Foundation continued its unwavering support for the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) by donating generously to the SCO Fundraising Gala Dinner 2006 held on 2 September. The event was graced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the Patron of the SCO. Guest vocalists, accompanied by SCO, sang under the baton of SCO Music Director Tsung Yeh. According to SCO’s press release, those who lent their voices that evening included MPs Dr. Teo Ho Pin, Ms. Indranee Rajah, Dr. Lily Neo and Mr. Chan Soo Sen, The highlight of the evening was when wife of the Senior Minister, Mrs. Goh Chok Tong sang a second song at the dinner, upon requests from the audience. The event raised $1.4 million, a record high for the SCO. 
  • Hong Leong Foundation is proud to be a supporter of Singapore: The Encyclopedia, a comprehensive reference source of Singapore’s culture and history. The encyclopedia was officially launched at the Istana by President S R Nathan on September 11.  
  • Hong Leong Foundation supported The Theatre Practice with a grant for its Chinese play, Thunderstorm. Thunderstorm is an epic tragedy about a family haunted by its dark history. Thunderstorm was performed by top-notch talents from China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia at the Victoria Theatre from 28 September to 1 October 2006.

2005

  • Hong Leong Foundation was presented with a token of appreciation from Ministry of Information Communications and the Arts Minister Dr. Lee Boon Yang for its sponsorship of The Singapore Season in London. There were performances by the Singapore Dance Theatre and the Tang Quartet and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra. There were also screenings of popular films by Singapore’s film makers.
