Hong Leong Foundation continued to give away hongbaos to the needy in its annual festive giveaway tradition. Nearly 3000 needy elderly received a festive hongbao of $180 each from Hong Leong Foundation. In addition, 900 elderly received $60 each. The giveaway amounted to $600, 000.

This year, the Hong Leong Group, together with its subsidiaries
and Hong Leong Foundation contributed S$10,000 to the School
Pocket Money Fund, a fund-raising project by the Straits Times
and Sunday Times team in aid of children from low-income family.
The project aims to raise enough funds to help these low-income
family children to attend school with minimum worries. The
entire project raised approximately

received the Corporate Gold Award from Community Chest.
The company contributed S$100,000 to the Community Chest Charity
Gala held in March, which raised S$1.2 million for 55 charities
supported by the National Council of Social Services.

Members
of CDL's staff volunteer club, City Sunshine Club (CSC) help
raised about S$15,000 through the sale of carnival coupons
and food items at Carnival 23, a food, fruits and fun fair
carnival held at Mount Alvernia Hospital in September 2000,
in aid of cancer-stricken children. Funds raised are for establishing
the Assisi Children's Centre by Assisi Home & Hospice.

sponsored S$20,000 towards the President's Charity Night 2000
in aid of charity organizations nominated by His Excellency,
The President of Singapore, Mr S R Nathan.

Millennium
& Copthorne Hotels plc has kicked off the new millennium with
a most worthy cause by adopting NCH Action for Children as
its leading charity. NCH is one of the UK's leading child
care charities, running more than 370 projects for Britain's
most vulnerable children, young people and their families
- and in so doing supports over 70,000 people. Around the
world, the group's hotels also support charities on a local
or regional basis, and many focus on children. For example,
the Singapore hotels support several children's charities
including the Spastic Children's Association and the National
Kidney Foundation. CDL Hotels New Zealand Ltd have the Child
Cancer Foundation as their sole charity.

A
food and fun fair carnival hosted and co-organised by CDL
at Central Mall in August 1999 raised a whopping $417,062
for Assisi Home and Hospice, which provides medical, nursing,
social and pastoral support for over 600 cancer patients.
The carnival's success was made possible by a turnout of a
10,000-strong crowd and 1,000 volunteers who manned a total
of 100 stalls

A
pledge of a total of S$2 million to 43 educational, community,
charity and arts organisations by CDL to celebrate the official
opening of its flagship building, Republic Plaza, in February
1998.

CDL
offers two construction industry scholarships worth S$52,000
as part of the company's continuing effort to promote youth
development and education in Singapore. The BCA-CDL scholarships,
which will commence in July 2001, will cover a four-year degree
programme in Engineering (Civil) and Science (Building) at
either NUS or NTU.

In
1998, the Hong Leong Group bought six special editions of
"The Singapore Story: Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew". Proceeds from
the sale of the Memoirs were used for training and education.
CDL also purchased a gold-plated edition of the Lee Kuan Yew
CD-Rom at $10,000 in aid of the Universities Fund in May 1995.
Another $10,000 was donated by the Group to the Tan Swan Beng
Professorship in Construction Industry.

CDL
was the sole sponsor of the Young Entrepreneurs Programme
(YEP) launched by the National Youth Achievement Award Council
in 1998. Sanctioned by the Singapore Trade Development Board,
the programme addresses the government and business community's
concerns about the need to nurture enterprising young Singaporeans.

CDL
contributed S$100,000 to the Universities Endowment Fund,
designated for the Goh Keng Swee Professorship in Economics
at the National University of Singapore in December 1996.
The chair, named after Dr Goh, a former Deputy Prime Minister
and Finance Minister, is in recognition of his contribution
as the architect of the Singapore economy.

Hong Leong Group of companies committed S$500,000 to the Chinese
Heritage Centre, a data resource center for Chinese history,
language, culture and the arts. The center was established
following increasing interest in Chinese communities living
outside China. It opened in mid-1995 at the Nanyang Technological
University.

football talents in Singapore benefited from overseas training
stints under the CDL-Goh Chok Tong Football Talent Scheme
in the early 1990s. In April 1995, CDL extended its sponsorship
with an increased sponsorship of S$100,000 per annum over
five years, in a bid to promote sporting excellence in Singapore.
