2000
  • CDL is the first developer to receive the Green Leaf Award, conferred by the Ministry of Environment in November, in recognition of CDL's eco-friendly initiatives as a developer and its active participation in environment conservation.

    CDL is the first developer in Singapore to install the eco-friendly and energy-saving lift system at The Florida Executive Condominium. It is also the first private developer in Singapore to install the innovative and eco-friendly pneumatic refuse collection system in Sunshine Plaza, Summerhill and The Equatorial.



  • CDL is the main sponsor of the Singapore Green Map, an initiative by Singapore Environment Council (SEC) to promote our country's rich ecological attributes and environmentally-sensitive city.

    The Singapore Green Map was launched on 4 June at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to celebrate World Environment Day. At the launch, CDL presented a S$20,000 cheque to SEC for the production of the map.

    The maps were distributed at Millennium & Copthorne Hotels in Singapore and CDL's shopping centres while SEC distributed them island-wide at Changi Airport, schools, parks and nature reserves as well as tourist spots.




The Hong Leong Foundation is a "Green Partner", having pledged S$50,000 annually from 1997 to 1999 to the Singapore Environmental Council's Green Partners Scheme. The SEC, which nurtures, facilitates and coordinates environmental causes as well as the activities of about 25 environmental groups here such as the Nature Society, has raised over S$1.1 million. It has 40 green programmes in place.





2000
  • The Hong Leong Professorship in Ophthalmology was launched in February 2000 at the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). It is envisaged that eminent persons in the field of ophthalmology will co-operate in teaching, expanding clinical and laboratory research initiatives aimed at explaining the causes of and identifying risk factors for the development of various eye diseases. The Government has matched the Hong Leong Group's donation of S$1.5 million three times through the NUS Endowment Fund.


1998
  • The Hong Leong-NKF Dialysis Centre, Singapore's 14th dialysis centre, was officially opened in August 1998. A S$1.5 million donation was made by the Foundation and Group's companies to the National Kidney Foundation for the setting up of centre, which also houses Singapore's first Kidney Resource Centre offering comprehensive information, educational and counselling services.


1996
  • Since 1996, CDL has actively supported the National Kidney Foundation Charity Drive, an annual nation-wide fundraising campaign in aid of more than 3,500 kidney patients and their families. CDL was once again the major sponsor of the NKF Charity Show in June/July 1999, with its Faber Crest apartment valued around $700,000 offered as the top prize for the Lucky Draw. Previous years saw CDL's Hillview Green, Parc Palais, Guilin View and Moonstone View condominiums offered as the top prize.
